Jacaranda carpets are high-quality, luxury carpets, made with gorgeous, handmade textures.
Jacaranda was created in 2003 when founder Richard Merger was shown a sample of a carpet that had been handmade in India. The sample was of great value for the quality, and Merger was quickly on a flight to India. A week later, he had his first container of carpet.
Most of Jacaranda’s handmade carpets have been handwoven, making them of incredible quality. Handweaving is a real art that takes a lot of time and skill. Each roll of their carpet is passed through at least 130 expert hands, and the whole process takes around 26 days. This process adds to the beautiful natural colours that Jacaranda prefer for their carpets, as well as the gorgeous textures.
Interesting textures are part of what you get with a Jacaranda carpet, and you can only get these textures with carpets that have been made by hand. Handweaving cannot (and isn’t supposed to) mimic the uniformity of carpets that have been made by machines. To ensure the highest quality, operatives check over every inch of the carpet, and carefully remove any stray yarns with scissors. Hand-held shearers are used to create the smooth finish that these carpets are known for. Every single carpet they made is checked over by Jacaranda’s quality controller. They compare the colour to the master example, check the pile height, and that the pile is well-secured and has an even colour. Every carpet that is made by Jacaranda is sure to be of impeccable quality, so you know you’re getting something unique, beautiful, and hard-wearing for your home.
Jacaranda also takes their ethics and their treatment of the environment very seriously. Their Natural Weave Herringbone, Hexagon or Square, Harrington, Heyford, and Holcot all carry the Prodis rating. This is a European test that sets strict maximum levels of VOC emissions and chemicals. To keep their rating, Jacaranda must limit their environmental impact throughout the whole life-cycle of the carpet, from production to recyclability.
They also work with GoodWeave, which works to eradicate child labour in the carpet weaving industry. Handmaking carpet is a very labour intensive job. Jacaranda works hard to ensure that everyone involved in making their carpets is treated well. Child labour is common in India, but Jacaranda guarantees that no children are ever involved in their production. This is why they choose to support GoodWeave, which make regular surprise inspections of the factories.
If you want a carpet that you know has been made ethically handmade by experts, will last a long time, look beautiful, and can be recycled when it’s time for a new carpet, then Jacaranda could be the ideal choice.
